Ink Flight #41 Reveal, June 2020

We're back in Poland for an exciting, super-sheeny Ink Flight #41. We last sampled KWZ inks on Ink Flight #18, and Ink Flight #3. Konrad is always willing to share his inks for all our subscribers and I'm glad to present you with some of the newest inks in the lineup, including a sequel to one of his sheeniest inks.

Konrad has a Ph.D. in chemistry from Warsaw University of Technology and has been manufacturing his own inks since 2012. After doing some research into making his own home-made iron gall ink, he started a hobby that would lead to building a world-renown brand of fountain pen inks.

Here is a rundown of June 2020's Ink Flight colors -

KWZ El Dorado
This is the gold ink you've been searching for - it shades well with tones of orange and red. It reminds me of Colorverse Martian and looks especially awesome in a broader or flexible nib.

KWZ Grapefruit
Keep your writing zesty with this juicy red ink.

KWZ Cappuccino
This medium-toned brown ink shades well and pairs nicely with your morning cup of coffee. It's a chocolatey, neutral brown.

KWZ Iron Gall Green Gold
This olive green color darkens as it dries while becoming water-resistant on the page.

KWZ Grey Plum
So dark that it could be mistaken for black, Grey Plum is saturated with dusky purple undertones.

KWZ Sheen Machine
Following the success of the sheening "Walk over Vistula" ink (Ink Flight #18), Konrad upped the ante with this super-sheeny royal blue. Be sure to load it into a pen you don't mind cleaning. And, please, don't leave this in a pen for months in a desk drawer.

KWZ Sheen Machine 2
The newest KWZ ink is the mean, green sequel. Sheen 2 is a greenish teal color with reddish-purple sheen. Use this ink with just as much care as the original Sheen Machine. It's super saturated and will be a chore to clean if left in a pen and forgotten.

Tasting Notes: To balance out the opulent, super-saturated sheening inks, I aimed for a more subdued palette that took on warm and pleasing tones. El Dorado is one of my favorites for a bright, cheery ink that has dimension. It's particularly fun to write with this ink over what you may have written already with a sheening ink. It picks up the color from what was previously written and creates a gradient effect. I hope Konrad will continue with new and exciting inks. Perhaps a Sheen Machine III is in the works?

June Ink Flight box extras

Midori MD Lined Notebook A6  and Clear Cover Protector

In previous Ink Flights, we've featured some Midori products from Japan. In my opinion, they're one of the best at delivering an essential stationery experience that transcends conventional notebooks and writing accessories.

Midori focuses on the ideal writing experience and strips away any bells and whistles with the minimalist appeal of the MD Paper Notebook. Focusing on pure writing pleasure, the 176 ruled pages of MD paper is some of the smoothest paper suitable for fountain pens.

The MD Notebook has no cover, exposing the mesh on the spine. Combined with the threaded binding, the lack of a cover allows the notebook to open and lay flat with ease.

To protect the Midori notebook, this month's box included a clear, vinyl cover. Sized for the A6 size notebook, this cover also has a pen loop for thinner writing instruments.

An InkJournal-exclusive sample rainbow sticker was also included to help decorate your new notebook.
