Ink Flight #58, November 2021

This month, we adventure into the stars to explore brilliant constellations - brought to you by South Korea's Colorverse Ink. Instead of traveling lightyears across deep space, this new ink collection is now in your hands. You won't need a telescope to see the glorious shading, sheening, and shimmering inks in this Flight.

The Colorverse "Constellations" collection is the second volume of the "Ink Project." Last November, Ink Flight subscribers explored the first volume in Ink Flight #46. With an expansive lineup of inks already available, Colorverse continues to add new hues with each new set of colors.

Colorverse Ink Project Vol 2 Constellations

Here's a rundown of November 2021's Ink Flight Colors:

Colorverse α Boo
(Arcturus) A bubblegum-rose pink color that has legible saturation, good shading, and a slight undertone of pale blue.

Colorverse α And
(Alpheratz, Sirrah) This multi-chromatic dusky blue hue has undertones of gray and lavender. Also a lightly-saturated, strong shading ink.

Colorverse α Ori
(Betelgeuse) The brightest star in the Orion constellation gets the most vibrant red color with a greenish-yellow sheen.

Colorverse α Uma
(Dubhe) This complex grey color has murky undertones of purple and light green.

Colorverse α Scorpii Glistening
(Antares) This shading salmon pink color glistens with a brilliant blue and silver twinkle.

Colorverse α Psc
(Alpha Piscium) You'll find the muted hue of this blueish-green shading ink welcoming to read. Strong shader - especially with a wet-writing broad or stub nib.

Colorverse α CMa
(Sirius) Write peacefully with the dusky blue tones of this ink. This color will also show shading with finer nibs on papers like Tomoe River.

Tasting Notes: Unlike some Ink Flights that feature sheeny, saturated ink colors, this month's Colorverse inks are almost all undersaturated. I believe that Colorverse understands the current market demand for multi-chromatic, shading inks. Think Sailor Ink Studio 123 and Troublemaker Milky Ocean as two prime examples of this trend. While I feel they came close with "And" and "Uma," this set doesn't quite have the same drastic dual-shading effect like the aforementioned examples from other brands. The colors are very light and have a watery consistency, except for "Ori," of course. The low saturation does help the cleaning process, as they were a breeze to rinse out during the 30 Inks 30 Days challenge. If I had to pick a favorite of this set, I would say the Scorpii glistening is the most fun and unique, thanks to its blue glistening shimmer.

Ink Flight Box Contents Platinum Plaisir

Platinum Plaisir Fountain Pen with Platinum Converter

A step up from one of the most well-known starter fountain pens in the Preppy, the Platinum Plaisir has an aluminum barrel and cap to provide additional weight, enhanced texture, and a colorful look. The transparent grip section allows you to see the ink feeding toward the nib. Platinum's stainless steel nib performs reliably with precision. Keep the nib fresh for extended periods of time thanks to Platinum's "Slip & Seal" inner cap mechanism.

To fulfill the quantity needed for all Ink Flight subscribers, we fulfilled boxes with an assortment of Plaisir pen colors.

Although the Plaisir comes with a single Platinum proprietary ink cartridge to start, we know the Ink Flight crew will want to use this pen with the included ink samples. So, a Platinum proprietary converter was also included in the Ink Flight Box. Install this piston converter like an ink cartridge by pushing it into the fountain pen's section. Then, fill it with your choice of ink by twisting the piston knob.

We also included a sticker of a turkey holding an Esterbrook fountain pen. We commissioned illustrator Thales Medeiros (@untaughrod on Instagram) to create this fun design. This is our third sticker collaboration with Thales.
