People have lost their minds.

It seems like everywhere you turn on social media, discussion boards and even in a close circle of friends that our views have become polarized.  Civil discourse has devolved into labeling and name-calling. Our trending #hashtag culture has gotten out of control.

And it's all because of these "Sheen Monsters" from Organics Studio.

No, not Charlie Sheen. #datsheen

Sheen is achieved when an ink's chemical composition allows light to reflect off the more saturated concentrations of ink on the paper. It appears that the writing on the paper is electric when the light hits it a certain way. Writers have enjoyed inks with this characteristic for some time. Lamy Dark Lilac, Robert Oster Fire & Ice, J. Herbin Emerald of Chivor, and many other inks are capable of a certain degree of sheen.

However, none of these inks can quite live up to the high bar that Maryland-based Organics Studio has set. Starting with a reformulation of Nitrogen Royal Blue, the USA ink manufacturer has made a name for themselves with these monsters of sheen.

Appropriately, we had to have these monsters in our October Ink Flight Box. Also, this past month has seen the first edition of Ralph Waldo Emerson's Twilight Blue, which is the third major sheening ink formula. Accompanied by "Walden" Pond Blue and Nitrogen, we had to balance out the intense saturation and sheen with some lighter colors like Nickel and Vanadium.

Here is the rundown of this month's ink exploration:

Henry David Thoreau "Walden" Pond Blue

Move over Lamy Petrol, this dark teal is an absolute stunner with a vibrant, violet sheen that sometimes overwhelms the dark blueish-green hue.

Ralph Waldo Emerson Twilight Blue

First Edition. This midnight blue is like a navy that leans toward blue-black. In the areas that have dense saturation, the brilliant reddish sheen is wildly vivid.

Nitrogen Royal Blue

The original "Sheen Monster" of this collection, Nitrogen is a rich, bright blue that sheens a beautiful pinkish-violet.

Oscar's Copper

Part of the "vintage ink" series, this reddish-orange has a smoky shading quality with a slight hint of greenish sheen. Organics Studio formulates their "vintage" inks for safe use in celluloid pens or vintage pens with sacs.

Vanadium Purple

A powdery lilac, Vanadium has a soft and lightly saturated profile that shades dramatically with a thicker, wetter nib.

Nickel Teal

A bright, vibrant teal (more in the family of turquoises to be honest) that flows nicely and stands out great on ivory or white paper.

James Joyce Hunter Green

A rich, saturated forest green-black, this ink is dark and mysterious.

Box Extras - Ink Flight Carry On Zipper Case

This month, we put together an exclusive item never offered before on our website (or anywhere else). The Ink Flight Carry On is technically a "pencil case," but its uses extend well beyond throwing wood case graphite in there. Looking for a place to store your ink samples? What about all your pen-filling paraphernalia that may have people wondering if you're addicted to drugs and not pens? Throw it in your zipper Carry On case and...carry on!

Here, we have the Ink Flight Carry On case pictured with our Fall Seasonal Sampler pack. It's a convenient size that can stash a variety of writing tools, refills or other personal items that help you be creative on the go. It's built from durable nylon and is created in the colorway that is most familiar to pen people - blue & black. By far the most popular ink colors that writers use on a daily basis.

We also included this fun and inspiring ink bottle magnet along with a piece of candy for Halloween.

Did you love this month's Ink Flight and want more ink? We've got extra bottles of Organics Studio waiting for you! They are limited, so go ahead and grab them before they sell out.
