Ink Flight Reveal #22 + Giveaway

With November being the month of Thanksgiving (November 22nd here in the USA), this month's Ink Flight Box took on a fall/gratitude theme to fulfill your journaling needs now and well into the upcoming year.

The brand of ink selected for this month's Flight is a newcomer to the world of fountain pen ink. The last time we visited South Korea, we sampled the space-themed Colorverse inks. This month, we explore the delectable colors of 3 Oysters Inks imported from Korea. All colors are pH neutral, made from water-based dyes and are non-permanent. Let's check out the colors!

3 Oysters Ink Swatch Rainbow

Here's a breakdown of all the colors in this month's Ink Flight:

Mustard

Spread this on your paper using a stub or flex nib to get the full range of yellow-brown of this delicious "mustard" color.

Red Wine

This deep burgundy-red color has a mellow shading quality and goes down smooth on paper.

Purple Gray

This dusky purple has a darker complexion with thinner nib widths and shows off smoky shading with broader or calligraphy nib sizes.

Namsan (I.Color.U)

Part of the I.COLOR.U series of inks inspired by the city of Seoul, Namsan is a rich, evergreen color that hints of sheen.

Gogung (I.Color.U)

Gogung is a deep, earthy brown that is also inspired by Seoul City.

Min Cobalt Blue (Hunminjeongeum)

The Hunminjeongeum is a 15th Century historic document created for the common Korean people to learn how to read & write the language. 3 Oysters dedicate a line of inks to this document, including this saturated blue color.

Jeong Jade (Hunminjeongeum)

Also part of the Hunminjeongeum series, this vibrant green hue shades well.

Captain's Notes:

Rather than being flashy with loads of saturation or sheen, these inks are a well-behaved set, mellow in their appearance with an understated rich quality. To push these colors and see their depth, I mostly used either flex or italic/stub nibs to put as much ink on the page as possible. I feel flex is ideal for finding the "range" of an ink because you can opt to write without putting any pressure to simulate what a standard nib would produce. Then, you can flex to see how the ink looks with a wetter flow. For that reason, Mustard, Jeong Jade, Purple Gray, and Red Wine capture my attention due to the depth of shading. Gogung is a great fall color (goes well with the turkey). Cobalt is the best sheener of the group, followed by Namsan.

Box Extras: 2019 MD Notebook Diary (B6 Size)

To get you ahead of the game for 2019, this month's Flight Box included a special notebook imported from Japan to act as your guidebook, your confidant, your memoir.

With plenty of space and an easy-to-use format, this Midori Notebook Diary delivers a minimalistic approach to the traditionally dated planner. The book is organized into a block-style monthly calendar layout (starting Dec. 2018, ending Jan. 2020), followed by a ruled (7mm line width) section divided into 4 parts per page, and ending with blank pages. Each notebook has a bookmark string as well as label stickers to archive your book.

To illustrate your notebook, a plastic stencil plate was also included (1 of 20 designs selected at random) to help draw symbols, headers, borders, and other ornamental decorations. Speaking of decorations, the "Give Thanks" turkey with pens sticker (exclusive InkJournal design) can adorn the cover of your notebook, gratitude journal, coffee travel mug, planner, or anywhere you'd like to stick it.

We here at InkJournal are most grateful for all of you that join us each month for these inky adventures. Even if you've never tried a Flight, we appreciate your readership and support on social media. Thanks!
