Ink Flight 7 featuring Platinum Mix Free Inks

n August, the Ink Flight threw a curveball to all you pen and ink enthusiasts. Instead of sending over another batch of inks from a new manufacturer, we decided to let you make the ink of your dreams using Platinum's Mix Free Inks.Platinum Mix-Free inks are pure, balanced ph aniline dyes, formulated to be mixed with each other to produce new color combinations. *A word of note: DO NOT mix these inks with other brands of ink.

We included one sample each of the 9 color set, along with a sample of the dilution liquid that is used to tint the color, if one would so desire.

I won't go into providing my thoughts on each of the inks individually as I normally do during these reveals. However, I can speak to the level of fun and the quality of the end result product in mixing the ink. After we got back from the DC Pen Show, my daughter (little Ink Journal) and I were playing with the Mix Free set and made a demonstration video to show how to mix the ink using the samples and product we provided in the Flight Box.

We had a blast recording the video and developing the resulting ink color that was uniquely ours. We called one Dark Violet and the other Apple Season.

To help mix the ink, we included the simple, yet practical Ink Miser Ink Shot, an extra pipette and an empty vial to store your inky creation.

Create Your Own Ink Contest

To inspire our Ink Flight members into action to create their own colors, we sponsored a contest for the best create-your-own ink using the Platinum Mix Free Inks. People shared their inky creations on social media and mailed in their entries. Please note, as of this writing, I haven't checked the PO Box yet, but will do so today and update any last second entries in this list.

At the end of this page will be a survey. Please select the ink that you feel is the best color of the bunch. Whichever color you like the best! On Tuesday, September 5th, we'll pick the winner with the most votes and announce who will take home September's Ink Flight Box and bragging rights!
