Ink Flight #90 Reveal, July 2024
For this month's ink flight, we climb aboard a rocket ship to explore the gas giant Jupiter and its moons. Coloverse Season 8: "The Great Expedition" has an exciting, diverse range of ink colors that sheen, shade, and shimmer. Each color is inspired by scientific research collected by the numerous missions to the largest planet in our solar system.
Plus, this flight has a little surprise in store for each subscriber!

July 2024 Ink Flight Box #90 Color Selection
Colorverse Halo Ring
A high-shading light blue ink with clouds of lilac, "Halo Ring" expresses the inner part of the ring around Jupiter.
Colorverse Sidereus Nuncius
The astronomical treatise written by Galileo in 1610 detailed the discovery of four of Jupiter's moons. This deep, saturated brown-black has a stealthy sheen.
Colorverse Bow Shock
This electrifying blue ink has a magnetic personality, sheening with a supersonic pinkish hue.
Colorverse Ganymede
Named after the largest moon in our solar system, this shading ink has a soft, purplish-gray hue.
Colorverse Laplace Resonance
This extremely light, multi-chromatic shading ink contains tones of gray, blue, and pinkish gold.
Colorverse Massive Storm
This tempestuous greenish-blue ink takes its name from Jupiter's signature storm systems.
The seventh color is a random draw from 6 colors paired with the 6 main colors above. These colors are:
Intense Magnetic Field (sheen), Heliocentrism (sheen), Great Red Spot (shading), Dust of Adrastea (shimmer), Loki Patera (shimmer), and Icy Moon (shimmer)
Ink Testing Notes:
Colorverse sure knows how to craft a collection of inks. While other manufacturers might lean more on a particular type of ink (Sailor, for example, made the first series of yurameku inks all lightly-saturated, dual-shading colors), Colorverse treats the fountain pen ink enthusiast to a full range of their ink-making repertoire. This includes saturated inks with heavy sheen, duo-chrome shimmer inks, and undersaturated multi-shading ink.
In other words, Season 8 has something for everyone.
Since each Season 8 release was sold as a 2-pack of bottles with one 65ml bottle of one color and one 15ml bottle of another, we made the (6) 65ml inks the primary colors sent to all of our subscribers. The 7th ink was randomly selected from the (6) 15ml ink colors. In case you missed out on a color you would have liked more, we listed the extra samples of the 15ml colors for sale.
I tend to favor the inks with sheen and dual shading more than the shimmer inks. But, Loki Patera caught my eye. It's a brown that has pink undertones with a purple shimmer. I thought it would write a bit on the drier side, especially with the shimmer, but it flowed nicely through my broad-nibbed Kaweco Sport fountain pen.
Another ink that needs a broad or stub nib is Laplace Resonance. It's almost like writing with invisible ink that then darkens as it dries. While it's a bit more legible than some Ferris Wheel Press inks, Laplace is still tough to see clearly on the page.
Although I haven't written extensively with it yet, "Great Red Spot" seems to be after my heart and might replace Colorverse Martian as my favorite red-orange shading ink.
Those are my thoughts on the inks that stand out in this set so far. I'm still in the process of exploring the rest and I'll update this page when I have fully-formed opinions on the entirety of Season 8.

July 2024 Box Extras: Endless Creative Block - InkJournalCustom Edition, MT Washi Tape, and Pipsticks Stickers
Record your pen and ink pairings like a scientist using the tear-away Endless Creative Block. This custom notepad combines Endless' 80gsm ink-friendly paper with InkJournal's format for exploring your fountain pen and ink sample collection.
Perform your ink reviews on 70 removable sheets of paper, all adhered to a backing board for a stable surface to write on. The sheet size (5.25" x 8.25") is roughly the same as an A5 notebook page, so you could write a review, remove the page, and then attach it to the inside of an A5 journal.
A special thank you goes to Sherrie T., who suggested a version of the InkJournal notebook with unbounded pages so the ink reviews can be sorted, organized, and arranged on separate sheets. It was her request that inspired this pad. Thanks, again, Sherrie! I hope you're enjoying your Creative Block pad.
To attach your completed InkJournal sheets to your notebook or to attach a chromatography strip, you can use the roll of decorative MT washi tape included. MT is a decorative tape that's easy to tear by hand and reposition on nearly any surface. Write on it, layer it, and use it on paper, gifts, objects, or the wall. The 15mm x 7mm roll has a Seigaihamon wave motif commonly found in Japanese art.
Decorate your journal or your pen and ink reviews with the included sheet of "All the Write Stuff" stickers from Pipsticks. These unique, stationery-themed PVC designs with gold foil accents come on a clear backing and cannot be found anywhere else.
