Ink Flight #99 Reveal, April 2025

Born from the ashes of the legendary OMAS brand, SCRIBO carries the torch as a top-tier fountain pen and ink manufacturer from the storied city of Bologna, Italy. Their water-based inks offer the best writing experience when paired with flexible nibs. However, as you'll find out when you sample each elegant color, they will perform just as nicely with all fountain pens.

A big "grazie" goes to Luca Baglione of Scribo for sending these inks swiftly and securely from Italy. Luca used to work for OMAS as one of the company's top employees. When the company went bankrupt back in 2016, he and several other OMAS employees started SCRIBO in storied city of Bologna. SCRIBO focused on what made OMAS pens well-loved in the pen community - piston-filling fountain pens with gold nibs you won't find anywhere else in the world.

So far, it's been a successful start. SCRIBO continues to grow with each addition to their collection of pen models in the Feel, La Dotta, and Piuma designs. SCRIBO's lineup of inks complements the wetter flow of ebonite feeds. Let's take a closer look at the selection of inks for this month's Flight.

April 2025 Ink Flight Box #99 Color Selection

SCRIBO Rosa Antico
This delicate, pale blush pink is the lightest in saturation with a drier flow.

SCRIBO Grigio Scribo
A color synonymous with the SCRIBO brand, this grey-blue ink shades well. Also, it doesn't stain wood when you accidentally spill it all over your floor. I speak from experience.

SCRIBO Classico Seppia
Despite being a rich brown color, Seppia presents medium shading qualities.

SCRIBO Verde Bosco
Inspired by abundant forest life, Verde Bosco's deep green color shades with a hint of reddish sheen.

SCRIBO Rosso Chianti
This charming, intoxicating wine-colored ink has a vibrant profile and smooth flow.

SCRIBO Verde Mediterraneo
In this vial, we captured a tiny part of the Mediterranean Sea you can use in your fountain pen.

SCRIBO Blu Cosmico
Expand on the mysteries of the Universe with this dark blue ink with a coppery sheen.

Tasting Notes:
In contrast to the Leonardo Inks (also from Italy) we sampled in last month's Ink Flight, SCRIBO inks have a more demure, fashionable appeal. I'm not saying Leonardo's inks were too primary or loud, but SCRIBO brings a different flavor in terms of their color selection. Similar to Leonardo, each SCRIBO ink has plenty of depth and interest. There's shading, sheening and a roughly equal amount of colors represented in both brands. Neither is attempting to be an Italian version of Sailor Inks.

Yet, SCRIBO has its own unique qualities that I found charming and display luxury. The colors have a mature personality and performed well in the pens that I inked. My favorites (so far, some have yet to grow on me) are Verde Bosco, Classico Seppia, and Grigio Scribo.
