Ink Flight #92 Reveal, September 2024

Now that summer is over, the cooler weather is prime time to curl up with a good book. In this month's Ink Flight, we remix classic literature with 7 novel inks from Wearingeul.

Drawing inspiration from properties in public domain, Wearingeul reinterprets novels and poetry into beautiful, expressive ink colors. The inks illustrate specific scenes, characters, or atmospheres within each story. Made in Korea, Wearingeul inks are suitable for writing and drawing with fountain pens, dip pens, glass pens, and other ink pens.

Tasting Notes:
As much as we love Colorverse for their space-themed fountain pen inks, Wearingeul struck a chord with pen enthusiasts, most of whom also enjoy reading. Both South Korean ink manufacturers hit on a theme that allows for many variations without feeling overdone. This set of Wearingeul ink samples is loaded with the big names in Western classic literature. No doubt many Ink Flight subscribers have read a few of these titles, probably for a school book report.

Peter Pan, Don Quixote, and Robinson Crusoe are the three undersaturated shaders of the group. Crusoe reminds me a bit of our exclusive Robert Oster Marathon Blue. The Peter Pan ink accurately captures the shade of green one commonly associates with Peter's costume. Don Quixote has an interesting pink-brown hue with smooth shading .

On the other end of the saturation spectrum, For Whom the Bell Tolls and 1984 bring the heavy, deep color with sheen. The Bell Tolls for thee if you like a deep, blueish green with red sheen. 1984 has a dangerous, deadly vibe with red glitter to complement the bronze sheen.

For more shimmer fun, dive into 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (quite possibly the longest name for an ink that I've written down). This medium-toned blue ink twinkles with golden shine - a little reminiscent of Pelikan's 2024 ink of the year Golden Lapis. If you've already got the Halloween decorations up (our house might be guilty of this), then energize your writing with the shimmering purple of Frankenstein!

Overall, these colors are fun, well-behaved (even the shimmery ones), and complement their themes well. Would they be as interesting if they weren't named after books? I think so! But, the names do help add to the excitement of the writing experience. Like, if you were writing a modern dystopian fantasy novel about virus-infected garden gnomes that attempt to take over the world, you would feel extra inspired to write it using Wearingeul 1984 as your ink of choice.
