Ink Flight #18 Reveal + Giveaway

Well, well, well. If you thought we were going the conventional route and migrating to yet another worldwide maker of inks, guess again! After 17 Ink Flights, we've highlighted a new palette of colors that feature recent releases to keep you up to speed on all the hot and trending inks.

Shading. Sheen. And everything in between. From Poland, we have two super sheeny blue inks from KWZ. Hailing from India, Dr. Sreekumar's Krishna inks give us a purple and a pink with high sheen. Bottled in New Orleans, Papier Plume's soft, shading inks were exclusive to the Chicago Pen Show earlier this year, but we got our hands on that and more - an exclusive ink of our own!

Here's a rundown of all the ink colors featured in July 2018's Ink Flight.

KWZ Baltic Memories

Dial up the high sheen with this rich, dark blue with a slight touch of green. Released in November of 2017.

KWZ Walk over Vistula

This sheeny ink has values that range from a brilliant turquoise to a dark blue with black sheen. Also released in November of 2017

Papier Plume Bootlegger's Scarlet Letter

Exclusive to InkJournal, this variant of Bootlegger's Sacrament came from a rejected batch of the Chicago exclusive ink. It wasn't a match to the original "Sacrament," but we like it quite a bit! "Scarlet Letter" is a bit more purplish with a brighter saturation. It takes its name from a prohibition-era cocktail of the same name.

Papier Plume Da Blue

DAAAA BEARS! This 2018 Chicago Pen Show exclusive ink reminds me of the SNL skit with Chris Farley. The navy blue-black color is in homage to the colors of the Chicago Bears football team. Released May 2018

Papier Plume Bootleggers Sacrament

Also exclusive to the 2018 Chicago Pen Show, this dusky reddish-purple has good shading and flow. The name is in reference to sacramental wine, which was often a loophole used for bootleggers during prohibition in Chicago.

Krishna Anokhi

This ink looks like it was hit with gamma rays! A deep violet gives way to a glossy sheen of electric green. The purple & green reminds me of the Hulk! Released March, 2018.

Krishna Black Rose

This bright magenta is anything but thorny. Black Rose has a rich hue with a dark ochre sheen. Released June, 2018.

Captain's Notes:

Each month, the Ink Flight usually travels from maker to maker, sampling the finest inks that the world has to offer. This was the first month we've gone back to several brands that we've explored previously. All of the inks we picked this month have debuted in the last 7 months, some being limited in availability. Given that new inks are being created on a regular basis, we would like to hear from you if you'd like to receive a "refresher" selection like this to keep you up-to-date on the latest inks from your favorite manufacturers.

Box Extras: Midori Notebook Light A6 Pocket, Caran d'Ache Waterbrush Pen

Here at InkJournal, we encourage you to play with your inks in a variety of ways. One such method is using a water brush to create background washes, practice calligraphy, and create artwork.

This brush pen has a convenient filling mechanism that can pull water (or ink) directly into its large reservoir. You can control the flow by pressing the push button on the side of the pen. The medium-sized brush tip is ideal for watercolor applications and brush lettering. Try filling the pen completely with water and dipping the tip with one of your ink samples to create a gradient effect. Clean out the tip by blotting the tip with a towel while flushing the water out of the pen. Try doing a bit of coloring using the brush pen on the included Pepin 250 gsm watercolor postcard.

This 2-pack of Midori notebooks includes one ruled and one with blank pages in a staple-bound binding. The 48 pages of cream-colored, lightweight paper hold well to fountain pen ink. The minimal design lets your thoughts and ideas take center stage.
