When you think of the major, worldwide manufacturers of fountain pen ink, several names come to mind: J. Herbin, Noodler's Ink, Robert Oster Signature, and our friends in the UK that we visited in this month's Ink Flight - Diamine!
With over 100 colors (and expanding), Diamine carries on a tradition of making fountain pen ink since the company's founding in 1864. Yes, it's hard to narrow it down to just 7 colors to include in an Ink Flight, but we did it! It was a conscious decision to ensure a mix of new colors, old favorites, and those with unique properties, like the Shimmertastic inks.
Here's a rundown of all the ink colors featured in August 2018's Ink Flight.
Diamine Sherwood Green
This deep, forest green flows beautifully and can exhibit a reddish-purple sheen.
Diamine Earl Grey
Selected by the online community on the /r/fountainpens subreddit, this lovely grey has blue & purple undertones.
One of the must-have fan favorites of the Diamine ink collection, this rich, subtle red shows some green sheen when spilled upon the page!
Similar to the blueberry, this Eurasian berry is the inspiration for this royal purple ink with a high sheen.
Diamine Autumn Oak
For those who are looking forward to fall, Autumn Oak's shading golden orange color will be as satisfying as a pumpkin spice latte.
Diamine Purple Pazzazz (Shimmertastic)
This rich, dark eggplant purple color has a lustrous golden particle shimmer.
Diamine Arctic Blue (Shimmertastic)
Give a gentle shake to disperse the silver shimmer in this bright blue ink with reddish-purple sheen.
The shading on Autumn Oak just cannot be denied. I'm not looking forward to fall, but seeing that beautiful orange on the page makes me feel a little less awful that summer is ending. The Shimmertastic inks are always a lot of fun to write with. They are sometimes unpredictable as to when the shimmer will actually be visible on the page. All of a sudden, one word will look as though it just got blinged out while everything around it seems plain. I am impressed by Bilberry's high sheen. My apologies for not being able to source all the retailer exclusive, super-sheen inks that are out there currently. Maybe we'll have our own someday. ;-) Full bottles of Diamine ink are available for sale here.
Box Extras: Apica Premium CD Notebook A6
The Premium line of the Apica is in a league of its own. The buttery smooth, acid-free paper handles fountain pen ink exceptionally well. The tight binding and elegant, embossed cardstock cover make this notebook a classy addition to any stationery collection.
Since we could not obtain enough notebooks in one particular ruling style (it is available as blank, ruled, and grid), we had to source a little bit of everything to satisfy the large demand. We randomly assigned who got each of the three rulings to be fair. I am using the blank one and have already filled a couple dozen pages with a short story that I intend on writing completely in that book.
Measures 105x148mm (4.1 x 5.8 inches) 96 pages, 86 gsm, acid-free.
Since we had an ink called "Earl Grey" and the British are known for their affinity toward tea, we decided it was a fun throw-in to include a bag of Earl Grey tea.
