Ink Flight #34 Reveal, November 2019

After Halloween, it's all downhill until New Year's resolutions (and guilt) force me to eat healthier. And that's OK. Listen, I'm not going to pass on the coffee and pumpkin pie. Just can't. Thankfully, you can fill your pens up with this month's calorie-free Monteverde Sweet Life inks without having to worry about tipping the scales.

We first visited Monteverde two years ago in Ink Flight #10. The California-based pen company brews ink with "ITF technology" - extends cap-off time, lubricates the feed, and improves dry-time.

Monteverde Ink Flight Samples

Here is a rundown of November 2019's Ink Flight lineup.

Pumpkin Cake
Warm, shading brown ink. Grandma InkJournal makes legendary pumpkin bread and pumpkin pies using real pumpkin we pick at Eastmont Orchards.

Chocolate Pudding
This smooth-flowing brown is rich with saturation. Who doesn't like pudding skin?

Cherry Danish
This rich, juicy red has a slight lean toward burgundy and shades nicely. Mrs. InkJournal loves going to the local bakery to pick up danishes and crumb cake.

Mango Mousse
Sweet and light - for those looking to brighten their page with pleasing, citrus color. Least saturated of the group.

Iced Cookie
It's hard to deny the sweetness of this aquamarine color. Lil' InkJournal loves baking her cookies for soccer games and family dinner on Sundays.

Blueberry Muffin
This ink bursts with juicy pinkish-purple color like it just came out of the oven. I know many might assume that this color is a "blue" from the name. I assure you, it is not.

Birthday Cake
Share a slice of this vibrant lilac ink with a Sagittarius this month.

Tasting notes: In the last few months, we've been riding the rollercoaster of undersaturated, dual shading inks to the super sheeny, and shimmering inks. While this set does not have either type of ink, it's nice to write with these Monteverde colors. They flow nicely with fairly quick dry times and are fuss-free to clean out of pens, which comes in handy during #30inks30days.

Yookers Felt Tip Pen with Monteverde Inks

Box Extras: Yookers Fiber Tip Pen

This month, we included another different way you can use your fountain pen ink. The Yooker's Fiber Tip pen has a writing texture unlike writing with a fountain pen and fills using an international ink cartridge or converter.

The Yooth is a plastic-body pen available in a variety of body colors and point sizes. To accommodate the quantity needed for the Ink Flight, we had to order a variety of assorted pen colors in the 1.0mm tip size. We felt it was more important to keep the consistency of the tip the same throughout all the shipments. If anyone is looking to swap colors of their pen, I'd suggest messaging each other through our Ink Flight Lounge Facebook Group.

The pens are meant to be reused and cleaned out as you would a fountain pen. Rinse the front end section until the water runs clear. I'd also suggest bleeding the tip by setting it on a paper towel in a cup, tip end down so it makes contact with the paper towel. I do this with my fountain pens as well. It helps wick out the excess water in the feed via capillary action - the same force that the fountain pen uses to deliver ink from the reservoir to the tip. If need be, replacement Yookers fiber tips are available to purchase separately in a variety of sizes.

To fill it with this month's ink samples, a Monteverde converter was also in the box. Instead of filling the pen up through the tip like you would a standard fountain pen, you have to fill the converter directly. It's possible to use a device like the Pineider Snorkel Adapter (January 2019's Box) to attach and fill up using the last bit sample vial ink.
