Ink Flight Reveal #52, May 2021
Earlier this week, the skies captured our imagination with the "super flower blood moon eclipse." Inspired by what mysteries lay beyond our human perception, Colorverse introduces their latest Season 7 ink collection. We explore all the colors in this month's Ink Flight Box.
Colorverse's "Eye on the Universe" peers deep in to the dark depths of space using the Hubble Space Telescope. Each color is inspired by celestial bodies found using the telescope's magnificent sight. The collection consists of 6 2-packs of ink (65ml bottle and 15ml bottle). So, there is a total of 12 ink colors, yet only 7 spots for our flight.
So, we included the first six "main" colors of this set (the ones in the 65ml bottles) with the seventh color being a "wildcard" from the assortment of 15ml inks. We did this previously for the Season 5 (The Red Planet) Flight with good success.
Here's a rundown of May 2021's Ink Flight Colors:
Colorverse Hubble
This rich, pinkish-red ink is dedicated to astronomer Edwin Hubble.
No. 82, Surface Tension: 52.5, pH: 7.8
Colorverse SM 1
This dark teal blue has a strong purplish-red sheen.
No 84, Surface Tension: 59.3, pH: 81
Colorverse Pillars of Creation
Named after structures found in the Eagle Nebula, this deep purple has green sheen.
No. 88, Surface Tension: 55.1, pH: 7.9
Colorverse Crab Nebula
Found in the constellation Taurus, this gassy, dark green has a purple sheen.
No. 90, Surface Tension: 52.7, pH: 9.4
Colorverse Hippocamp
This light, cornflower blue represents the faint moon of Neptune discovered using the Hubble Space Telescope.
No. 92, Surface Tension: 55.1, pH: 7.4
*Wildcard 7th Color*
No. 82 HST, No. 85 Costar, No. 87 NGC 1850 (glistening), No. 89 Mystic Mountain (glistening), No. 91 Horsehead Nebula (glistening), No. 93 Comet SL9
Tasting notes: When I saw the initial information on this new collection, along with the swatches of each color, I knew we had to explore these inks and they did not disappoint. There's heavy sheen this month. My apologies if it's a little too much. The shading Hippocamp and the vibrant Hubble does offset the dark, saturated tones of the color colors. There's also some unique colors the comprise the 7th "wildcard" ink sample, including three shimmer inks in NGC 1850, Mystic Mountain, and Horsehead Nebula. Overall, I'll definitely come back to these inks when I'm in the mood to write with something bold and exciting.
Box Extras: Midori Cordura 2-Way Pen Pouch
With summer coming soon, this Midori 2-way pen pouch is handy for all types sunny adventures. Its lightweight, durable Cordura fabric is resistant to tears and water repellant. The built-in strap makes it easy to carry all types of writing tools on every journey.
Even if this case isn't leaving the confines of the home office, the larger zippered compartment can be used as a valet/ pen tray on your desk. Both compartments have a mesh inner pocket that could be used for various accessories like ink samples, blotting paper, swatch cards, converters, cartridges, and more!
For more protection during travel, we suggest slipping pens into a Rickshaw plush sleeve before putting them in the Midori 2-way pen pouch.
This month's InkJournal exclusive sticker is a rendition of the Colorverse big bottle/little bottle with the Ink Journal logo on it. A picture of deep space is overlaid on the design.
Thanks to everyone that joined us for the Ink Flight Reveal/Pen Meetup on Wednesday, May 26th! We hope you will join us for the next one.
