Ink Flight #60, January 2022

This month, we celebrate 5 years of Ink Flights with a brand that has been with us since the beginning. Travel the great cities of America with seven new colors from Robert Oster Signature. Each ink honors its namesake city with a rich, vivacious color imagined by Mr. Oster.

Here is a rundown of this month's color selection.

January 2022 Ink Flight Box #60 "Currently Inked" Color Selection

Robert Oster Kansas City
Robert harvested the idea of this golden brown ink from America's Wheat Belt. It has good shading and a warm, caramel-like hue.

Robert Oster Chicago
This icy grey-blue ink is inspired by snowy Lake Michigan scenery. This color also shades well and has subtle lilac undertones.

Robert Oster Miami
Reflecting the inviting crystal waters, this blue-green ink has depth and shading.

Robert Oster Oklahoma City
The ink always seems greener in Green Country.

Robert Oster Napa
Famous for its wines, Napa is distilled into a rich, burgundy ink color.

Robert Oster New York
The "Big Apple" is represented in this Red Delicious ink color.

Robert Oster Las Vegas Shake n' Shimmy
Capturing the glitz and glam of the self-proclaimed "Entertainment Capital of the World," this violet ink has a sparkling silver shimmer.

Tasting notes - Robert continues to overdeliver on the quality of the newest ink collection. The "Cities" colors act as fun tributes to their namesake city. Most of the colors are medium-saturated and easy to clean out of fountain pens. Chicago has the lowest saturation while Napa is the richest. Just make sure to diligently clean out your pen after using the Las Vegas "Shake n' Shimmy" to prevent potential ink flow issues in the future.

Box Extras: Robert Oster Signature + Ink Journal Exclusive "Marathon Blue"

For this special Ink Flight anniversary, we tapped Robert Oster to create a fountain pen ink exclusively for our subscribers and dearest supporters.

What color does one pick for the 5th anniversary? Traditionally, the color for a 5th wedding anniversary is turquoise. And, I do love turquoise. So, I asked Robert to brew a light, multi-chromatic blue ink. Because we couldn't just have any ordinary turquoise, right?

By Robert's description, this ink has "dark blue edging, pale aquarian shadows, yellow-green clouds, and clear turquoise backwash." It's light in saturation and shades nicely while being easy to read. Bright, optimistic, and harmonious.

In addition to commemorating 5 years of Ink Flight boxes, this ink also celebrates a personal milestone. It is named "Marathon Blue" after the successful completion of my first marathon race (26.2 miles) 10 years ago. If you'd like to read more about my fitness transformation, I elaborate on this page here.

Marathon Blue is about taking one meaningful step after another. It's about enjoying the process while reaching for your goals. It's about being in awe of accomplishing what was once impossible. It's about the persistent effort in the face of repeated failure. It's progress, not perfection.

May this ink keep your pen moving, one word at a time, toward your wildest dreams. Thank you all for helping make my dreams come true - one Ink Flight Box at a time.

Not-so-little Miss InkJournal helped create the 2022 New Year's Inktopus sticker. Inktopus is ready to party wherever you decide to put it.
